Distraction Technique

Often, the best way to combat dental anxiety is to distract yourself from worrying thoughts. At Dentists for Chickens, each surgery is equipped with a television on the ceiling on which you can enjoy your favourite programmes, making you more at ease whilst you receive your dental treatment.

We also offer headphones so that you can listen to relaxing music. Alternatively, you can bring your own and listen to your favourite music with your earphones whilst your dentist completes your treatment.

Sedative Medicines

Some patients may require a little more help to overcome their fears and stay calm. For these individuals the dentist, or your GP, can provide a sedative medicine, either in tablet or liquid form. Patients who choose to use sedative medicines may become drowsy but will still be able to co-operate with the dentist. The effects of sedative medicine take some time to wear off and your dentist will tell you how long the drugs will take to clear from your body.

Relative Analgesia

If you think that you will need some assistance in order to relax we can offer you relative analgesia, also known as inhalation sedation. This involves inhaling nitrous oxide gas along with oxygen that may lead to a pleasant & relaxed feeling, thereby enhancing co-operation & ease of undergoing a dental procedure.

This treatment option may make you feel a little drowsy, but you will remain conscious and any treatment given will cause you no discomfort. This effect is reversible as soon as you stop inhaling the gas, in a matter of few minutes.

Intravenous or IV Sedation

A trained medical practitioner will give you an intravenous anaesthetic, directly into your vein, which helps to sedate you and makes you a little bit drowsy. During this time the required treatment can be done easily. You will still be partially awake but will not be able to feel the procedure.
