Dr Amit Kalra
Dr Amit Kalra’s story reads a bit like a well-crafted smile design – meticulous, heartfelt, and built on years of dedication. Trained as a dentist in India, he carved his path with a mix of curiosity, grit, and a genuine love for helping people feel confident in their own skin (and, of course, their own teeth). When he moved to Australia, he didn’t just bring his qualifications – he brought a philosophy dentistry should feel human, comforting, and even a little uplifting.
Today, as the driving force behind the Dentist for Chickens clinics across the Hunter and Newcastle region, he pairs modern technology with an old-school personal touch. Whether he’s redesigning a smile with clear aligners, tackling a complex root canal, or easing the nerves of an anxious patient, Amit leans in with calm confidence and a quiet joy for the craft.
For him, dentistry isn’t merely a profession – it’s a calling. It’s the chance to change a life in the span of a single appointment, to restore function and confidence, and to give every patient the space to feel cared for. His journey reflects one steady truth skill builds great dentistry, but passion builds great dentists.
Dr Ravinder Kalra
My journey as a dentist began with a heartfelt desire to help people smile with confidence. I completed my Bachelor of Dental Surgery at King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, in 2001, graduating as a gold medalist, an achievement that strengthened my belief that I was on the right path. Those formative years helped me develop a deep appreciation for how transformative a healthy, confident smile can be.
In 2007, I moved to Australia, stepping into a new world filled with challenges, learning, and growth. Re-establishing myself in a new country required resilience and dedication, but it strengthened my commitment to dentistry even more. Today, as a general dentist and the co-owner of Dentists for Chickens in Newcastle, I feel incredibly grateful for the trust my patients place in me every day.
For me, dentistry is truly a calling. Guided by my faith, my family, and my deep desire to help others, I continue to find profound joy, meaning, and fulfillment in the work I do each day by easing pain, rebuilding smiles, and restoring confidence.
Outside of work, I find joy in travelling, dancing, and spending fun, meaningful moments with friends—experiences that keep me grounded, happy, and creatively inspired.
